Review: Asking For Trouble by Tessa Bailey

Asking For Trouble
By Tessa Bailey

Holy shit...

I think that was the most common phrase running around in my brain while I was reading Tessa Bailey's new book, Asking For Trouble.  There was tension from the very first page and the fact that Brent was an officer in the explosives unit of the NYPD seemed so appropriate as at any time these two could light up the New York City skyline at any time...

I've read all 4 books in the Line of Duty series and by far this book is my favorite to date.  They are all stand alone books but it's best to read them in order so you don't run face first into a spoiler.  There is a ton of sexy bantering between these two strong characters.  The thoughts that went through Brent's mind as he is trying to hook up with Hayden are HYSTERICAL!

Tentatively, she walked toward the door, pulling her skirt back down to her knees as she went. Unmanly tears threatened once more as he watched her beautifully shaped ass disappear from view. I'll never forget you, ass. Don't forget to write.

Brent is a blue collar guy who is close with his family and friends.  He is the guy that everyone can count on to contribute a sexual innuendo at any event and trash talk his friends for being 'pussy whipped'.  Hayden is a society girl with her friends and family from the upper west side of Manhattan.  She is known as the ice queen because she has a sterling image to uphold.  She has a max of 4 drinks, makes sure she is seen with the right people and wearing the right clothes.  She is the exact opposite of Brent but that just makes their fiery love/hate relationship work so well.

Has the Blue collar guy gone for an 'Uptown Girl" in other romance novels? Sure!  For as long as the secretary has slept with her billionaire boss.  We are not re-inventing the wheel here, just putting some spinning rims on it :)  Tessa created a masterpiece in Brent.  He's the total package.  Loyal, funny, hard working, supportive, sexy, extremely good in bed (according to the ladies... ) and he doesn't take anything at face value.  That may be why his socialite duchess knocks the wind out of his sails when she refuses to have anything whatsoever to do with him.  Unlike other stories where the girl falls helplessly into the arms of this bad boy, she is fighting him kicking and screaming (literally) all the way.  The power struggle between these two is exciting to read and drags you right into their world before you know it.  All in all, I really enjoyed this book.

Tessa said that the next book is going to be about Matt and *should* be out sometime in February if all goes well. I for one can't wait to get my hands on that book!  Matt is a bit of a mystery man and from the few words he says, seems like there is much more than meets the eye.  Her ability to give good character is one of the things I love about Tessa's writing.  Her characters are well thought out and have just enough mystery to keep you hooked but not so much that once you find out it's something stupid like a scar you feel like you've wasted the whole day.  These books have humor, sure, but they have sex.  Not so much to make you think their parts will fall off from over use but just enough to make you jealous as hell that you aren't getting the same, thorough, attention.  Seriously, HOT....

Blog Tour Stop: Determinism by LK Collins - Kayla The Bibliophile

Determinism

I have to give a huge THANK YOU to Miranda of Mommy's A Book Whore for throwing this my way.  I was questioning my sanity by taking on a blog tour for book two of a series when I hadn't yet read book one but I really should never have doubted her!!  I had just finished the Beautiful Bastard and The MC Sinners series and was not sure if I could handle yet ANOTHER book hangover...
Turns out I could :)

Since the Blog Tour is for Determinism that is where the bulk of this review will be focused but I can't just start in the middle of the story!!  Fatalism is book one in the Life~Destiny~Fate series by LK Collins and where we first meet Alexa and Vincent.  Alexa is a PDA phobic paralegal out on the town for her sister's birthday when she stumbles into Vincent... Literally.  They had an instant connection that had her chucking all her PDA objections right out the window.  She only knew his first name and after a hot and heavy make-out session, she was dragged out of the club without a backwards glance.  I really can't go too much further in depth without a flashy spoiler sign so lets just say things get... interesting... from there.

Alexa lives in an inherited townhouse in Cherry Creek, CO with her best friend, Cara.  They have best friends for years and have been there to pick up the pieces when life doesn't play fair.  The estrangement between Alexa and her mother, Vivian and the death of her much loved Grandfather along with a number of failed relationships have left Alexa hesitant to give her heart too freely.  She has rules, and the number one is to never EVER date a lawyer.  So naturally the guy she can't get out of her head has to be a sexy as hell, determined, passionate lawyer.  With Alexa being so gun shy it takes every tool in Vincent's shed (hehehe) to get her to open her heart and let down her walls.

Feeling like they need to integrate their lives a bit, Alexa and Vincent invite Cara and, Vincent's bad boy brother, Abel along on a double date and right from the beginning sparks are flying.  Cara and Abel are obviously attracted to each other but Cara has had her heart shredded by enough tatted up bad boys to let another one break her.  Abel hasn't been with the same girl for more than a night in almost a decade and doesn't think he will change that history any time soon.

Cara is an ER nurse who loves to get out and party when she isn't burned out by her long and demanding shifts at the hospital.  Abel is a new Fire Chief for Denver Fire Department and happens to be a big reason for Vincent to move back from Arizona.  When not pulling his 3 day shifts at the firehouse all he can think about is setting Cara's body ablaze.  With all the wildfires in Colorado this past year he has seen his fair share of work but he also knows how to play hard.  He is the typical bad boy, covered in tats and driving a Harley, that thinks he can move on once they hook up but her flat out rejection of him has Abel working overtime to gain her approval.

After months of trying to deny their feelings for each other a devastating fire that lands one of his men in the hospital, they suddenly can't fight the attraction any longer.  They each have so much baggage that trying to start a relationship seems pointless but they throw caution to the wind and find that what they fought against was the only thing worth fighting for, Love.

The really enjoyed LK's ability to draw you into these stories.  I may or may not have cried on multiple occasions during Determinism which made me feel even more drawn to this series.  There are a number of steamy scenes that made me wonder if Alexa and Cara needed medical treatment after these stories were told.  I was looking for a disclaimer stating "No actual vaginas were hurt in the writing of this book."  (there wasn't one...) since these girls were getting it on like they didn't have anything else to do. At all.  Ever.  *sigh*

I'm actually concerned for the people who reviewed this on Amazon saying that there is too much sex in this book..... Um... you do realize this is smut, right??  I mean, when there are disclaimers that say
**Adult Themes and Situations MATURE CONTENT** before you even buy the book that should be the sign that they these aren't your grandma's Harlequin novels.  They are talking about copious amounts of hot, sweaty, back breaking, shower so long the water got cold, filthy, delicious sex.
Just wanted to make sure we understood each other :)

Now, go forth and drool over Vincent and Abel!

Much love,
~SS

Aleatha Romig Edition: Dare to Tell the Truth with Kayla the Bibliophile

Aleatha Romig took the dare!!

What would you say is the most embarrassing thing you have done or had done to you?
I remember right after I released Consequences, my boss had just started reading it. I’m a dental hygienist and my patient was the state youth director for a big church. I knew my patient outside of work and hadn’t mentioned I wrote books. So, my boss is all like, “Did you know Aleatha....?”

Now, I know Consequences wasn’t erotic...but it wasn’t exactly Church reading either. I was mortified... until about six months later when my patient’s wife emailed me and told me how much she was enjoying Claire and Tony!!! Wow! My 50 Shades of Red w/ her husband must have gone unnoticed!

 Craziest Fan moment?
I’d have to say my first experience with fans was the craziest. I mean, seriously, I wrote some books. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled people like them. But when my husband and I went to the Boston Author Event in March of 2013—it was SUREAL! And—we loved every second! To have people come up and start talking about my imaginary friends, like they were their own—I can’t describe how it made me feel.  Every author event since then has been equally as rewarding. I LOVE my fans—the Tony lovers—AND the Tony haters! Please come talk with me! I truly enjoy it!

Ha! Probably...and I’d point her out to my husband!

What is the strangest sexual experience you’ve had?
Again—old! And—married to my high school sweetheart... our definition of strange and yours is probably a million years apart!

Funniest sexual experience you've ever had
I was nine months pregnant with our oldest. I had heard that sex can induce labor. So, I put on a lace teddy...one I’d received as a shower gift. When I walked into our bedroom, seductively... my husband laughed to the point of tears! Needless to say, our son wasn’t born for a week!

Andria Large Edition: Dare to Tell the Truth with Kayla the Bibliophile

Let’s start with a little foreplay…
What would you say is the most embarrassing thing you have done or had done to you?

I would have to say that my most embarrassing moment was when my dad found out that I wasn’t a virgin anymore. I was 17 at the time, sitting down in the basement of my parents' house with my boyfriend at the time, and my dad came down and said, “You’re not gonna be screwing in my house!” Oh man, that was the worst!
Craziest Fan moment?
Ya know, I haven’t had any crazy fan moments yet. But I’m still new to the game, so…
Pick one!
Favorite book and/or author?
Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux. Love her, she’s the shit!

Import or Muscle car?
Depends on who’s driving it ;)
Favorite song and/or musician?
I’ve been in love with The Backstreet Boys since grade school (That was about 15 years ago). I still go to their concerts when they’re in town and I still love their music and they are still hot as shit. If I wasn’t married with kids, my bedroom would still be wallpapered with their pictures.  What? Don’t judge me!

White, Dark or Milk Chocolate?
Milk chocolate, for sure!
Sam or Dean Winchester?
They are both hot, but if I had to choose, it would be Dean. He is just so sexy!
Commando, Boxers or Briefs?
Boxer briefs on the hubby, but briefs on male models.
Damon or Stephan Salvatore?
Don’t shoot me, but…who? I obviously don’t watch this show.
Wine or Mixed drink?
Mixed drink. Malibu Bay Breeze has been my drink of choice lately.
Coke or Pepsi?
Definitely Pepsi. I only drink Coke when I have no other choice. Pepsi is sweeter.
Biker boy or Rocker dude?
Biker, there is just something about a hot guy on a motorcycle, yum!
Do you believe in vampires?
I wish vampires were real, that’d be cool as shit!
If you could have a super power what power would you pick?
I think I’d like to be able to talk to animals and babies. I would love to know what goes on inside their heads.
What would you do with your super power if you had it?
Uhhh…talk to animals and babies?
Would you abuse your super power? How?
You mean like Willard and send shit-tons of rats after people? Yeah, maybe, I definitely have someone in mind that I’d like to do that to *cough…ex-sister-in-law…cough*
WILLARD

Enough foreplay, let’s get it on!
Tell us about your 1st time!
Oh man. I was 17 and going out with this boy for a while. We actually tried once before, but he got so nervous that he couldn't stay hard. So we gave up that time. Then when we tried again, we tried to be all romantic about it. My parents were out and we went to my bedroom, lit candles, blah blah blah. I don’t remember too much about it really. I remember it didn’t hurt like I had been expecting and I remember thinking “Really? That was it?” LOL!
Screamer, moaner or silent?
I’m definitely a moaner, sometimes a screamer. My hubby is the silent one. Drives me nuts! I never know if whatever we’re doing feels good or not because he doesn’t moan or groan.
Whips or chains?
Neither, I ain’t that freaky.
What is your favorite alcoholic beverage?
Moscato di Asti, sparking wine. I like it super sweet.

Do you ever leave home without panties on?
God no! I’d feel naked.
Have you ever had sex while at work (any job)? If so, where?
No, I’m boring I guess, lol.
What is the strangest place you ever had sex?
When my husband and I were just dating, we had sex on the jungle gym of a playground at night, hehehe.
What turns you on more, reading a sexual story, watching a porn or listening to sex?
Stories and Gay porn. Wow, I can’t believe I just admitted that!
What profession do you find the most arousing sexually?
Military men
 Does size matter?
Yes…yes it does! If anyone says that it doesn’t then they are lying!!!
Do you or have you ever had a “cop” fantasy?
I’m living it baby! My husband is in law enforcement!
Do you or have you ever had a “Delivery Guy” or “Service Man” fantasy?
I will admit that the UPS guy where I used to live was pretty darn cute!
If you were on a bus and got a glimpse up a pantiless girl’s skirt would you keep looking?
Yuck, no! I’d tell that bitch to cover her shit up though!
What is the strangest sexual experience you’ve had?
I don’t think I’ve ever had a strange sexual experience
Funniest sexual experience you've ever had?
My husband and I always laugh when we’re pressed together, facing each other, and our chests make a fart sound, lol.
Most embarrassing sexual experience?
I don’t get embarrassed too easily, especially with my husband. I am waiting for the day where one of us farts during sex though, that has yet to happen.
Dominant or Submissive?
A little of both. I like when he gets a bit rough and takes over, and there are other times when I like to take control.
A fantasy you haven't fulfilled yet?
I’ve thought about a threesome, but I don’t think I’d want to share my hubby with another woman and I don’t think he’d want to see me with another guy, so it’s kinda out of the question.
 Your stand on sex toys?
They are a must! I’m not one of the lucky women who can come just from penetrative sex. I need my vibrator if I wanna get off.

Siiiigh, that was fantastic…how about some pillow talk?
What would you do if you could be a guy for a day?
I would absolutely play with my junk all damn day! No question about it! LOL
How would you describe yourself so that someone could pick you out?
The chick with the glasses and two little girls running around her.
What's the last thought in your head that involved someone you like?
My husband has a sexy walk and looks hot in tactical pants ;)
What is a question you want me to ask you?
Uhhh….
What is a question you refuse to answer?
I’ll answer whatever, I don’t have anything to hide.
Any tats or piercings? If so, where?
Not tats yet, thinking about it though. My ears are pierced and my belly button. I took out the belly ring when I got pregnant with my first daughter and it hasn’t been put back it. My belly button will never see the light of day again!
Biggest turn on?
A sexy smile
Biggest turn off?
Bad breath!
Pet peeve?
I have soooo many pet peeves. People driving slow in the fast lane and refusing to get over it a big one. Stupid people in general. And I can’t stand whining!
So tell us something nobody knows about you?
I started out writing Backstreet Boy fan fictions, staring mostly Brian or Nick and Me, of course! Also, I used to play the piano.
What did you think while reading these questions?
I hope no one from my family reads this!
Thank you for answering my naughty questions. Was it as good for you as it was for me?
Oh yes, definitely!
Did you have anything else you’d like to say before we go?
I just want to thank you and my fans for being supportive of my books and me. I love to write and it makes it even better when other people love what I write! Lots of Love!

Sassy Sara Review - Where I Need To Be by Kimberly Knight

Where I Need To Be

(Kayla and Kimberly at Naughty Mafia 2013)

I bought this book from Amazon a while back because it was inexpensive and had decent reviews.  I have this habit of picking up the first book of an unknown author and if I really like book, I'll buy the next books in the series just to see what happens.  That's how I got into Kristen Ashley, Jade C Jamison, Jennifer Foor, Red Phoenix... you get the picture.  After Kayla's super fun and successful weekend at the Houston Bookrave, we Facetimed for a bit and she told me about all the cool people she got to hang out with.  If I recall, the conversation went something like this:

Kayla: Woman!  Do you have any Kimberly Knight books?
SS:  Really?  I have almost 1,000 in my TBR, how can you ask me that?
Kayla: Hussy, check your Kindle.  I met up with Kimberly today and we need to read her series together so we can write a review on them.  Have you read her Dare interview?
SS:  Of course I have! Oh, It appears I own Where I Need To Be, is that the one you mean?
Kayla: Sure is!
SS: I'm on it.

Needless to say, with Kayla's already busy editing schedule and all the other blog tours, she has only gotten about 35% of the way done.  I managed to finish it before the week was out so here I am, the sassy speed reader herself, writing the review for y'all.....

"When life hands you lemons, they say to make lemonade,
Well, life just handed me a whole lemon tree."

Life was not treating Spencer Marshall well. Thank God for her best friend Ryan and her not so idle threats.  If Spencer hadn't taken up this new assignment at work she may have never walked into Club 24 and into the life of Brandon Montgomery.  What starts out as glimpses of him all hot and sweaty on a treadmill turns into a game of chance when they end up running into each other in Vegas.

I have to be completely honest with you all.  For about the first 10% of the book I was finding it difficult to believe that these characters were over the age of 23.  The way they talk and text each other made it hard to believe these people were in their late 20s.  Maybe I just look on the things they do and compare them to my own experiences?  So I changed their age in my head and the book seemed to make more sense to me.  The boys seemed to be about their age but the girls seemed too into playing games for someone out of college for so long.  If you treat this more like a NA book you will have NO problem getting sucked in to this series... Just like me!

With that being said, Kimberly's sex scenes are HOT!  There is no denying that this girl has a gift from the good Lord above when she's writing her scenes for the bedroom... or the hallway... or a dance floor... or the living room... you get my point. :)   Brandon being a young and successful business man is of course a certified catch when you combine that with his delectable body and gift for talking dirty.  There is no doubt he knows how to work it and he has his sights set on Spencer.  There are a few challenges they face early into this budding romance that threaten to end it before it begins.

All in all, I feel this first book of the B&S series was pretty good.  I liked it enough to buy books 2 and 3 to see what happens next for this group of friends.

In case you didn't catch her interview I have made it easier for you to get to it :)

CM Stunich's Blog Tour for Tough Luck: Kayla The Bibliophile

Welcome to the Kayla The Bibliophile Stop on the
Tough Luck Blog Tour
Hosted by Love Between The Sheets

I warned you!!
You have had every opportunity to buy and read books 1 & 2 of the Hard Rock Roots series so I hope you are ready...  If not, Tough Luck!!

We pick up where we left off in book 2, and start reading from another POV.  In Tough Luck we get to learn more about Lola Saints and Ronnie McGuire, both drummers on this 'Tour From Hell'.  Lola is no saint and neither is Ronnie. Lola is an Aussie trying to make it big with her band, Ice and Glass, while Ronnie is trying to escape his pain in drugs and dangerous sex.  Lola made a promise to herself and her band to do whatever it takes to make it big but she may have gone too far this time.  Ronnie can't see past his self imposed prison over the death of his one true love, Asuka, to care if he lives or dies.  Trouble is, his band mates in Indecency are being targeted for some unknown reason and he has now become the main focus of that target.  Do Lola's ambition and these strange incidents have anything to do with one another?  Will she be just another victim in Ronnie's debilitating path of self destruction?   There's no denying the attraction they feel but will Ronnie sink even lower if he allows himself to care for Lola after what happened to Asuka?

I'm going to warn you in the event you have not already heard, this is a cliffhanger.  Now, before you say anything or stomp off into a corner, it's WELL worth the wait for book 4.  Fortunately, the book is being released (per her FB page and the end of book 3) in the first week of December so there isn't a HUGE wait to find out what happened.  Honestly, I am not typically a fan of the cliffhanger.  I would prefer to wait until the next book(s) are released and read them straight in a row.  Ask anyone you like, patience is NOT something I'm well known for :)  I could have put this off and just gone with a promo for now so I wouldn't be disappointed but felt that there was no way I could wait to find out what happened after Get Bent.  I'm so very glad I didn't wait!  It was a great read.  Steamy Scenes, all the banter Naomi and Turner are known for as well as a look behind the wall that Ronnie has shielded himself with for far too long all make this a book worth reading now.

While this book does not focus on Naomi and Turner, they are certainly still front and center in this book (as if Turner would let it happen any other way!!) and will also star in the continuation, Bad Day.

If you haven't read our reviews posted the last 2 Mondays, here they are!!

And if you didn't get to read the Dare to Tell the Truth interview we did with CM, read it now!!

Thanks for stopping by!  Don't forget to like our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/kaylathebibliophile) so you can stay up to date on the latest info on CM Stunich and all our favorite authors.     ~Sassy Sara
