At first, I’m not positive that I LIKED Ryce…but I think Red did this on purpose. He’s not an affectionate Dom like we fell in love with in her Brie books. I knew eventually I would like him though, because we get a hint of his caring nature when we find out that he pleasures the women of the town known as the outcasts, the women who are not considered marriage material whether they be widows, past the marrying age, etc… And when Chrisselle is forced on him, he’s not the nicest guy to her either. But she slowly grows on him, and when he finally lets her in, we see an entirely new side of Master Leon that wasn’t present with the other ladies in the beginning of the story. Chrisselle’s Ryce is who the reader will end up falling for.

Besides our main characters, there are a couple of endearing supporting characters. Avril, the “Naughty Seamstress”, is a wonderful woman who is an outcast because of the scars on her face. And my favorite, Eventide, Ryce’s horse, who takes the place of a best friend in this story, provides some wonderful comedic relief.

Just to reiterate the warning, Ryce is an immortal. This series will follow him throughout the centuries.

Anyone who is a regular reader of the blog is probably thinking, 'Wait. Didn't they already review this book?' and that would be yes.  Here's the thing, when Kayla told me this was a 'Must Read' as in I'm required to read it in order to stay book besties with her, I picked it up. True to her word this book was awesome.  I just felt like this book needed a bit more exposure since it's been out for a while now and what better way that give MY opinion on things? Taddy Brill is the daughter of Manhattan socialite parents who grew up with the good life.  She had everything she could have ever wanted including a best friend that lived in the same building.  She was as happy as any child devoid of any real parental love could be but one day changed all of that.  Ever since she was 12, Taddy found that her best option was to look out for number 1 and her real friends.  Everyone else could take her or leave her and she didn’t think twice about letting people go.  She was considered a heartless bitch that had no real feelings since they only led to heartbreak and confusion.

There is something to be said for being a bitch. My friend said that bitches sleep better at night.  After reading this book I really wonder if that is the case at all.  I mean, Taddy had so many ways of escaping reality but at the end of the day when she went to sleep she was alone (except for her Shih Tzus) and lonely.  She didn’t realize how alone she was until the one man she couldn’t do without walked out of her life.  Now Taddy is forced to acknowledge that she wanted and deserved all the love she has been denying herself of for years.

Sweet Jesus on a saltine cracker, you’re a freaky deaky.  She wondered if there was anything he couldn’t do for her.

Since this is the second book of the Manhattanites Series but the first story in the timeline, reading this book first is actually a really great idea.  I freaked out a bit when I saw that it was book 2 but since this prequel lays the foundation for the rest of the series, it’s perfectly fine to read this book first.  Either way, it’s a fun and funny read that has you rooting for a Mormon, worrying about a hypochondriac mother, and questioning how bad your childhood really was in comparison to the way that Taddy, Lex and Vive grew up.

Review of Lola Stark's Conflicted Love

Conflicted Love...  

Yeah, that was one way to describe Trip and Teeny at the beginning of this book.  There was so much happening between these two characters during Tattered Love that we never heard about and Conflicted Love tells you exactly what was happening between Teeny and Trip when Mace and Scarlett weren't looking.

"Don't push me, Princess. I'm clear out of give-a-fucks and my dick's so hard it could hammer nails.  Move that sweet ass before I bend it over and fuck it into oblivion." I growled in her ear driving the point home with a quick swat to her ass.

It should come as no shock to anyone that knows me that I'm a HUGE fan of tattoos.  And Motorcycles. And hot Marines. And Alpha men.  That Lola is able to add all of that into one series without it seeming like a gimmick or a used up plot makes me love this lady even more.  Trust me, I've read enough books to know...   Her ability to make you love people that you originally thought were assholes is something I will never understand but always appreciate.  I was on the fence about Trip.  I seriously thought he was an asshat and needed to leave Teeny alone.  By the end of the second chapter I was completely on team Trip.  How does she do that?!?!

There are so many things that have to be worked out since Trip has never been with a girl more than once. Ever. Now that he is faced with being a father, he is struggling to figure out how to get Teeny to see him as more than just transportation to and from her doctors appointments.  For once he wants more from a woman and he can't have it.  

I hadn't beat the meat this much since I'd figured out what it was for.  I was ninety-percent sure I was forming blisters and I was ready to take out shares in the world's largest lotion company.

These two characters are faced with a serious life altering decision.  Do they have a child even though the bonds of love are not there to hold them together or do they let it go and hope that some day they can all be happy and move on with their lives?

I'm a huge Lola fan, so when I actually ended up winning a swag pack from her (yes, I saved the envelope because it came to me from Australia!) I was excited to see this dog tag inside.  I don't know that anyone in this story will get me going as much as Mace but let me tell you, Trip definitely caught my attention in this book.  He showed me all the reasons Scarlett liked him so much.  I guess Lola will need to send me another tag that say's Trip's Tramp now?? lol...  Next up?  We get into some really murky water while we read about Jude. I have a feeling that fists are gonna start to fly!

Kayla the Bibliophile Blog Tour Stop: Aurora Rose Reynolds' Until Trevor

 

I had the pleasure of being the editor of Until Trevor, Book 2 in Aurora Rose Reynolds' Until Series. I can't tell you how much fun it was getting to know such a wonderful woman with so much talent for telling a great story!

 

The reason I love this series is because, like Aurora, I hate a lot of angst. I like a good romance, with a hell of an ALPHA, a chick you'd love to be friends with, and some hot nooky. And ARR delivers all of that without having a ton of heartbreak like so many people crave
(what is wrong with y'all?! lol)

Trevor, like his yummy brother Asher (still my favorite brother, sorry Trev) is an Alpha male who takes what he wants. Liz comes out of her shell in this story, after being the sweet quiet friend in Book 1: Until November. I loved getting to see another side of Liz! She's hilarious, loving, a little unsure of herself, but strong for the people she loves.
