If you follow me, I assume the genres you like are either Paranormal Romance, Erotica, NA, etc...stuff with lots of raunch in it. So, let me start out by saying, we're gonna have to grade Very Bad Things on a different scale than what I'd normally use. I say this because this book would probably be better for a younger crowd. Don't get me wrong, if you are a person who doesn't need a lot of nooky in their book to enjoy it, then by all means...the STORY itself was fantastic. The suspense and anxiety it gave me were CRAZY. You should see some of the messages I sent to Ilsa, literally yelling at her because this book made me absolutely bonkers.
But if you were to go into reading this book KNOWING that there isnt much actual sex in it, I think you will enjoy it more. I always refer to this as the 'Consequences Effect'. CJ Roberts wrote a fantastic review of the book Consequences by Aleatha Romig. She forewarned everyone who was hoping that Consequences would be like her Captive in the Dark, that the book hinted at the "love scenes" but didn't actually explicitly describe the acts. After reading her review, I went into reading Consequences for the story itself, knowing that it wouldnt be like that, and so I was able to enjoy it instead of just waiting for the raunch to happen.
Back to VBT. Go into this book for the great story itself. I'm telling you now, the humpage is very light. The build up, however, is INSANE. Our main guy has balls of STEEL. For him to be able to hold out and deny her the way he does, over and over and over...I've never met a man that would be able to do that. Because Nora is HOT. Her genuine good-heartedness, mixed with her trying desperately to be bad, is a lethal combination that no man would be able to resist.
The characters are wonderfully developed. You love some (and can't wait to read about them more in the upcoming books) and others you seriously wish were real so you could kick their ass.
I don't read YA, but I would definitely squeeze in the sequels in this series. I want to see what happens to Nora's best friend, and Leo's brother!
Description:
Born into a life of privilege and secrets, Nora Blakely has everything any nineteen-year-old girl could desire. She’s an accomplished pianist, a Texas beauty queen, and on her way to Princeton after high school. She’s perfect…
Leaving behind her million-dollar mansion and Jimmy Choos, she becomes a girl hell-bent on pushing the limits with alcohol, drugs, and meaningless sex.
Then she meets her soulmate. But he doesn’t want her.
When it comes to girls, twenty-five-year-old Leo Tate has one rule: never fall in love. His gym and his brother are all he cares about...until he meets Nora. He resists the pull of their attraction, hung up on their six year age difference.
As they struggle to stay away from each other, secrets will be revealed, tempers will flare, and hearts will be broken.
Welcome to Briarcrest Academy…where sometimes, the best things in life are Very Bad Things.
Dare to Tell the Truth with Kayla the Bibliophile
What would you say is the most embarrassing thing you have done or had done to you? Three cops thought I fit the description of a young girl who had robbed a gas store once. They pulled my convertible over and searched it and me. I was twenty-five and convinced they were going to lock me up. They did detain me for an hour. Fun times.
